Who can apply
Ideal4Finance’s minimum requirements. Meeting them does not guarantee approval, the final decision is the lender’s, based on your circumstances, the amount and the term.
- Aged between 18 and 75, and a permanent UK resident with 3 years' address history.
- Employed, self-employed or retired, with a gross annual income of more than £12,000.
- A bank or building society account with a Direct Debit facility.
- Not currently bankrupt, subject to an IVA, or with any CCJs.
Before you begin
- There are risks involved in taking out a loan and you should ensure you can make all payments on time and in full; failure to do so can lead to financial difficulties and have a negative impact on your credit score.
- Ideal4Finance may receive a commission from our lenders, up to 2% of the value of your loan, upon completion.
- This application must be completed by yourself only. A credit search is made as part of it, and your details are shared with lenders and credit reference agencies.

How it works
Four steps, from survey to switch-on.

Design
We survey the property and design the system around your roof and your usage. Nothing about how you pay is decided yet.

Apply
You complete the application yourself, it has to be you; an application filled in by anyone else can be cancelled. Open banking makes it quicker; skip it and you will be asked for ID and a few documents instead.

Agree the terms
Once you are approved you get a link to confirm the purchase, choose your term and payment dates and set up the direct debit. Work starts after that.

Relax
We install, you sign a satisfaction note, and a call confirms you are happy before anything is settled with the lender.

Once the work is finished you sign a satisfaction note, then you get a call to confirm you are happy before the lender releases anything. That call comes from a number beginning 01772, so do pick it up, it is the last step before everything is settled.

Every install is MCS certified and signed off, our data handling is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office, and finance is arranged by an FCA-authorised broker.
Questions people ask
Do I have to take finance?
No. Finance is a payment option and never a condition of buying. You can pay outright, or arrange credit yourself, it is worth seeing what your own bank offers before you decide, because that is often cheaper than any brokered product.
Who actually lends me the money?
Eco2u is not a lender. Ideal4Finance act as the credit broker and place your application with a lender from their panel. The loan is not linked to the system you are buying, it is a separate agreement between you and the lender.
Will applying affect my credit file?
Yes, a search is made with a credit reference agency as part of the application, and the lender's checks on your income and affordability are recorded. If you are unsure what that means for you, ask before you apply.
What if the savings are less than you estimated?
Your payments do not change. Savings estimates depend on when you use electricity, whether you have a battery, what your supplier pays for export and how prices move, they are estimates, never a guarantee, and your repayments are due in full every month either way.

Can I pay it off early?
Yes. The terms for settling early are set out in your agreement, ask the lender for a settlement figure and they will confirm exactly what is owed.
How long does the whole thing take?
Most residential installs are done in one to two days once the paperwork is complete. The application itself is usually quick; what varies is how fast any documents the lender asks for come back.

Savings estimates are not guaranteed. What a solar system saves depends on when you use electricity, whether you have a battery, what your supplier pays for exported power and how energy prices move. Any figure we give you is an estimate. Your monthly repayments are due in full every month whether or not you achieve it, the two are not linked.
