The short answer

Yes, EcoFlow PowerOcean is a very good home battery, and one of the two we recommend most. The current generation, OCEAN 2, uses 5 kWh or 8 kWh LFP packs, has power-cut backup built in with no extra box, and its 5 kWh packs carry a 15-year warranty as standard. Most UK homes need the standard single-phase model; the Plus suits bigger single-phase homes, and there’s a separate model for three-phase supplies.

PowerOcean is EcoFlow’s home battery range, and OCEAN 2 is its latest generation. These are the questions we’re asked most about it, answered from EcoFlow’s own UK product pages and warranty terms.

Is EcoFlow PowerOcean any good?

Yes. It sits alongside Sigenergy as one of our two top picks. What stands out:

  • A long warranty. 15 years as standard on the 5 kWh packs and on the inverter.
  • Backup built in. Every OCEAN 2 model keeps power on in a cut without a separate gateway box.
  • Long-life cells. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP), rated for 10,000 charge cycles.
  • Slim and modular. Packs are about 19.6 cm deep and stack without extra wiring, so you can add more later.
  • A smart app. It works with more than 500 dynamic electricity tariffs.

Where it’s weaker: EV charging isn’t built in (Sigenergy’s is), the standard single-phase model only backs up as much as its inverter can supply, and as a newer range PowerOcean has less of a track record than Fox ESS. If any of those matter to you, read Sigenergy vs EcoFlow or see every battery brand we fit.

PowerOcean vs PowerOcean Plus vs three-phase: which do you need?

There are three OCEAN 2 models. Which one suits you depends mainly on your electricity supply and how much power your home draws.

Three-phase: Homes with a three-phase supply

From EcoFlow’s UK product pages, checked in October 2026. We confirm the exact model in your quote.

  • OCEAN 2 single-phase: the right fit for most UK homes, which have a single-phase supply.
  • OCEAN 2 Plus single-phase: a bigger single-phase system, with three solar inputs for complicated roofs and whole-home backup. Worth it for a large array, heavy loads in a power cut, or if you want to keep an existing solar inverter.
  • OCEAN 2 three-phase: for homes with a three-phase supply.

You may also see first-generation PowerOcean models on EcoFlow’s site. Confusingly, the older PowerOcean Plus is a large three-phase system, while in the OCEAN 2 range the Plus is the bigger single-phase model. If you’re not sure which supply you have, we check it during your free remote survey.

Should I choose 5 kWh or 8 kWh packs?

Both are LFP and the same width and depth; the 8 kWh pack is taller.

  • 5 kWh pack (5.02 kWh): 15-year warranty as standard. Charges at 2.5 kW and discharges at 3.4 kW. About 46 kg.
  • 8 kWh pack (8.03 kWh): 10-year warranty as standard, with an optional 5-year extension. Charges and discharges at 4.1 kW. About 67.5 kg.

Choose 5 kWh packs if you want the longest standard warranty and smaller steps in size. Choose 8 kWh packs to get more storage from fewer packs, and more power from each one. EcoFlow also lets you mix old and new packs and combine OCEAN 2 with earlier PowerOcean systems, so adding to it later is straightforward.

How much storage can I have?

On the standard single-phase model, one inverter takes up to six packs, which is up to 48 kWh with 8 kWh packs. Up to three inverters can work together, with up to 18 packs. The Plus and three-phase models go up to 96 kWh on one inverter.

Most homes need far less than the maximum. The right size depends on how much you use in the evening and overnight, your tariff, and whether an electric car or a heat pump is coming. Our technical solar designer sizes it from your usage in OpenSolar, and because it’s modular you can add packs later.

Does EcoFlow PowerOcean work in a power cut?

Yes. Every OCEAN 2 model has backup built in, with no gateway box to add, and EcoFlow quotes a 0 ms switchover “under supported grid conditions”. One of those conditions is that the house isn’t drawing more than the inverter can supply in backup.

  • Standard single-phase: backs up as much as its inverter supplies, up to 6 kVA. EcoFlow describes it as keeping essential appliances running, so we plan which circuits it carries. EcoFlow’s separate single-phase Gateway adds whole-home power.
  • Plus: what EcoFlow calls “true whole-home backup”, with a 72 A bypass for bigger loads.
  • Three-phase: whole-home backup at up to 63 A.

Can EcoFlow PowerOcean go outside?

Yes. The battery packs are rated IP66, the standard inverter IP65 and the Plus and three-phase inverters IP66, and EcoFlow approves all of them for indoor or outdoor use, standing on the floor or fixed to a wall. At about 19.6 cm deep, a stack fits on an outside wall, in a garage or in a utility room.

Does EcoFlow PowerOcean work with Octopus?

Yes, in more than one way:

  • Through the EcoFlow app. EcoFlow says the PowerOcean series works with Octopus Agile and Octopus Flux, and the app supports more than 500 dynamic pricing plans.
  • Intelligent Octopus Flux. Octopus lists EcoFlow as a compatible battery, so Octopus can run charging and exporting for you. At the time of writing, Octopus says this tariff is restricted while energy prices are volatile, so check before you switch.
  • Charge Pack. EcoFlow is on Octopus’s list for Charge Pack, its add-on that runs your battery around Intelligent Octopus Go, Octopus Go or a standard import tariff.
  • Octopus Flux. Standard Flux needs solar panels, a battery, a smart meter and an export MPAN. It doesn’t depend on the battery brand.

Octopus points out that compatibility can change as software changes, so we check the current position when we design your system. More on this in our guide to the best tariffs for solar and batteries.

Can I add EcoFlow PowerOcean to my existing solar panels?

Often, yes, but it depends on the model and your current set-up. EcoFlow says the OCEAN 2 Plus supports a third-party solar inverter on its backup side, and the three-phase OCEAN 2 works alongside existing third-party solar without replacing it. For the standard single-phase model, EcoFlow doesn’t publish a route for keeping your old inverter, so we check your system and explain the options.

A battery added to panels you already have is currently 0% VAT, until 31 March 2027. See adding a battery to existing solar.

What does the EcoFlow warranty cover?

  • 5 kWh packs: 15 years as standard.
  • 8 kWh packs: 10 years as standard, with an optional 5-year extension.
  • Inverter: 15 years.

A battery warranty doesn’t promise the battery stays as good as new. Like most makers, EcoFlow guarantees a minimum share of the original capacity: under its European warranty terms, that floor is 60% at the end of the 15-year term. We confirm the exact warranty for your model in your quote.

Can I charge my electric car from it?

Not from the battery itself: EV charging isn’t built into PowerOcean. EcoFlow sells a separate charger in the UK, PowerPulse 2 (7 kW, single phase), which links to PowerOcean and has a solar mode for charging your car from spare solar. If an EV is a big part of your plans, Sigenergy is worth comparing, because its DC charging module slots into the battery stack. See our EV charger installation page too.

Our verdict

If you want a long warranty, backup without an extra box and a battery that gets on with the job, EcoFlow PowerOcean is hard to beat. Most homes will suit the standard single-phase OCEAN 2, often with 5 kWh packs for the 15-year warranty; bigger homes and three-phase supplies have their own models.
